Lincoln Pride and the church hall quiz that followed.

So in anticipation of Erin and James' wedding E-laine and I went shopping in Lincoln, prior to visiting the Pride there. Whilst shopping with Elaine I learnt that she has a fondness for "Kurtis' synthetic cream buns" and that she knows Lincoln like the back of her hand, and the boy does the back of her hand, like the rest of her, love to shop.
Anyway after the shopping had finished we went to meet my sister at fag pride (my sister is not a dyke). Twas very small and the sound system cut out halfway through the P!nk impersonators set, I was also nearly trampled by a besequened drag queen running by screaming for cake (she was rather a big piece). Despite all this we had a very pleasent afternoon, Elaine enjoyed Paella and I enjoyed a few pints and copious amounts of codeine.
Later that evening when we got home E-laine and I, along with Val, Lara and Chloe attended the local church hall quiz, which was actually quite a nice way to pass a saturday evening, there was a buffet and cheap lemonade and an all picture round where you had to guess what the logo represented. I failed to recognise the Gucci logo, tut tut.
Anyway I am gonna cut the babbling , so enioy pictorial evidence below. : )

........something I've just remembered from childhood. However this, like most of my post titles, is unrelated to the content of said post. Below in chronological order you will find a small timeline of almost naked boy Polaroids. It's not comprehensive and doesn't include all highlights from the past few years of Polaroid , it is however enough for now!

This is basically a regurgitation of a couple of posts which are already on the CC blog, which I know makes me bad, but it is my main priority right now. So if you are feeling like I'm letting you down nip over to CC ,there is bound to be a more recent post on there!

I have been away my lovelies for too long, I have been away from this blog and yourselves.
Well I have returned to you now and promise to be more attentive when I can.
Anyway above you will find the results of a couple of months of dabbling with illustration.
I am by no means a master yet, but I am happy with the above four images.
They are supposed to be rather childlike and have a whiff of the Quentin Blake about them. Damn him for being amazing and such a big influence on my childhood.
I hope to get better though and so will be practising for many months to come. : )

For the few of you interested in banal technicalities the above were drawn first with my left hand (I'm right handed) in continuous line, I then erased what was not needed or had been refined, then added watercolour, finally I fine lined over the whole lot with both hands. Boring no?

Anyway, keep checking back over the next few months as hopefully new fashion babies will be created etc. Innit.

"Goodbye yellow brick road"

Hello my gorgeous fans, all two or so of you , welcome to this none Elton John related post.
Above you will see the fruits of our latest photographic labours.
You will see that they feature black lobsters and not much else. There were some other accessories, however I cut them in the edit unfortunately along with Caustics very own Sean Proudlove. On the other hand it means Jon's unsettling beauty gets all the focus.
I suppose this is an exercise in styling and photography, who can say?
Anyway I am tres tired so I'll keep this uninformative unimaginative post short.

First Caustic Adventure

Many moons ago on the 7th of September 2010, CausticCause, along with two very helpful friends, descended upon the unsuspecting village of Tickton in Yorkshire. What ensued was our first official project together, accessories and outfits by Causic-Funboy, photography by Cat Scriv, styling – an orgy between the two forces.
After checking out various locations we devoured a tasty lunch prepared by a Caustic mother, including a giant fresh cream and strawberry cake. Then we all five of us, accompanied by a mountain of fashion necessities, piled into Cat Scriv’s four person car and flew at the speed of darkness to various locations.

Through the course of the day we visited an abandoned cottage which had the distinct perfume of urine, trespassed on a tiny private mooring on a public footpath, entertained numerous cows in a field, as well as two old guys who were moved to say “I’ve seen it all now”, had Sean strip in a graveyard, and at various points stopped traffic. All in the name of FASHION!

What follows is our edit of the days shoot, hopefully you enjoy or despise it. And if not, it doesn’t matter as plans are well underway for our next projects. Hopefully they will be able to incite a response.

We also wish to extend our thanks to our two fabulous models Sean and Haley, who were not too traumatised by their experience and will hopefully be appearing for us again.

About

Our number is three, though in time more will be recruited to the cause.

This blog is the beginning of the soon to be historic alliance of Catherine Scrivener and Caustic Funboy. We came to work together through a shared appreciation of naked boys, fake dog shit, Grace Coddington, trannies, ABBA, art and unconventional style.

This blog is to be a showcase for our joint work; we have a mutual yet not exclusive interest in fashion, photography and styling. Through this blog we will endeavour to showcase to you our work relating to this as regularly as is possible. However as we are now truly international (scattered by the four winds of fate between New York, Manchester and Birmingham) we will also be communicating to each other via the blog, saying what’s inspiring and entertaining us in our respective cities. So for you it’s like electronic eavesdropping.

I also discovered ABBA's album The Visitors, the above stills are from The Day Before You came, one of the most perfect things I have ever heard.
There were many other things that influenced me, but I am having trouble remembering exactly what they are, aswell as finding images to illustrate them.

Onto today. Today I feel empty on the inside, even weetabix hasn't helped, I didn't think it would. I've put to paper some skecthes of head pieces which are commencing after I have typed this, they should materialise over the next couple of weeks.
Me and Lucas have also purchased polaroidy bits and bobs for his SX-70 camera, so hopefully our experiments with that will join the internet soon.
I also have in mind a small surprise for a certain person, it's a secret and most people will think its shite, so I keeps it to myself!

Thar she Blows........

Catherine many cameras and I have completed the next stage in our on going project, this stage of course being the Isabella Blow stage.

It was really refreshing to take the work out of a studio setting into location, I will admit though I had reservations about wandering about dressed as I was. We went to Normanby Hall (childhood home of Sammy C) and a chapel and field in Alkborough, we didn't get any worse than a few kids and drivers gawping at us, a car full of grannies did drive by us a number of times, I suspect to get a good look. I also got an admiring look from a topless young man in car, but that was when I'd taken the wig off to reveal my gorgeous blonde mane he probably thought I was a model. It's a mistake people often make.

The hats were of my own design, not recreations of those that Blow wore over the years though she has obviously influenced my aesthetics. There were only seven of my creation and one by Shane Wilson as mentioned above, I had wanted to make many more but I got over ambitious and under estimated the time it would take me to make them. I think we may do another Blow shoot anyway, as I wanna make more hats so that will give me a chance to expand upon what I've learnt this time.I will also shortly be turning my attention to Mary Portas accessories, as well as thinking about what hat to send Su Pollard.

Due to a misunderstanding we have not yet been able to photograph Jack Duffy's graduate collection, however we will endeavour to rearrange it for sometime this summer.

Anyway my hoofs hurt so enjoy the above roid sneaky peek and the final results will be shared very soon.

Procrastinating

So as usual I haven't made as much progress as I would like, as usual. It's due in part to being backwards and forwards, however next week I am less here and there, so should get a good run at stuff.
Mine and Catherine's shoot with Jack Duffy is now confirmed as the 9th of August. This of course sends me into a mild panic, because we will doing the Isabella Blow shoot in the same couple of days which means I have a lot of stuff to make. Hence the above picture of Cher In a Bob Mackie outfit at some point in the 70s. This is probably going to be one of the inspirations for the hats, just as Barbara Cartland and Isabella Blow herself will be, amongst many many other things.
The Isabella Blow shoot is a continuation of the project between me and Catherine which began as part of her degree. I chose Isabella Blow as a way of moving away slightly from the turds and more into other things, I had a lot of ideas for hats and thought this shoot would be a good way of showcasing them. Unfortunately I have very little training in millinery, so everything tends to be a bit too delicate and often doesn't look a thing like what I wanted it to. So far I have a set of horns.
Anyway I wont be getting right into it till after the workshop I am taking part in at the weekend, I don't fully understand what the workshop will involve, but am doing it anyway.

CF– Caustic Funboy

CS – So Danny, I feel the main aspects of your work include beauty, taste, repulsion and shock. Well, at least in the images I am producing with you. Do you agree?

CF- I’m not entirely sure that I do agree, although I do believe my work is of a similar sentiment of opposites. The faeces jewellery itself came from a joke, something humorous. I think a lot of my work has a good amount of humour running through it; I certainly try not to make it too serious. Aspects of my work involve polar opposites and contradicting themes, more often then not these are the basis or influences of my projects. Perhaps a good example would probably be the film ‘Hellraiser’ and Barbara Cartland, as one set of influences for a project I’m working on.

I digress; the faeces work was more a test of how much attention people pay, about concealing an objects true nature. I’ve heard it called subversive though I am not too sure. It’s quite easy to miss the fact they are fake dog poo and I fully intended this. Only when people pay enough attention to notice this can they then react to it. So it is perfectly possible that beauty, taste, repulsion and shock are reactionary aspects of my work in other people’s opinions.

CS – Do you think fake poo is enough to shock?

CF - No is the short answer, not that I ever really went out to shock people. Again it’s as I said earlier the work was about the amount of attention people pay and appearance disguising something’s true nature and possibly the affect colour has on the ability to perceive. I do not find it shocking in the slightest.

Shocking to me is the persistent homophobia in the underbelly of our culture. Shocking to me is Theresa May as equalities minister. Shocking to me is my friend being asked by a stranger on the tube if he is a “girl or guy”. So you see shock itself is subjective.

CS – Yeah, I see what you mean. For my research I looked into classic-style portraiture and painting, fashion photography and fine art. I came across two artists that use shit in their work – Chris Ofili who won the Turner Prize in 1998 and Piero Manzoni who put his shit in tins and sold it. I feel more repulsed by this, not shocked. What do you think it takes to really shock nowadays (not just repulse)?

CF - Funnily enough I’ve just learnt the office I work in once housed a Chris Ofili painting, long before my time. I believe it was the source of much controversy in the work place and was of course eventually removed. Now as for your question I couldn’t answer on behalf of the general populace. As I stated before, like most things, I believe shock to be subjective. Shock is the eye or heart of the beholder. We live in an age where we have become desensitized to a great many things. What I suppose I find truly shocking is mans behaviour towards fellow man. People have a tendency to treat others in despicable ways, more often than not because they are not the same as they themselves. To do what some people do too each other, it really seems to me people do not see those they harm as people. Now that’s a truly shocking and frightening thought.

CS – That is true, some people are truly awful. Obviously, combining such a beautiful style of photography and the fake poo creates contradictions. Do you think it works?

CF- I wouldn’t say it was the beautiful style of photography and the faeces that create a contrast or contradiction. I don’t believe a style of photography produces innately beautiful photographs, so therefore I don’t believe in a beautiful style of photography, I believe in beautiful subject matter, which is certainly not what I am.

I believe it is the refinement of the picture, due to its roots in classical portraiture, coupled with the outright ridiculousness of my appearance and the crudeness of the brooches that work together. However the only work together because of the strength of the images that you have produced, it is the strength of the images you produced that have made this work.

CS – Your influences are rich and varied from Barbara Cartland to Margaret Thatcher, where do you get all these influences from, and do you think they are all related?

CF - The internet! The News! Books & Magazines! Constant research! I work a very boring job, a job that leaves me with a lot of time to do research for my own purposes. So in fact, although some of my influences may seem unrelated, they really aren’t. It goes back to the whole six degrees of separation thing. It helps that I am often not just interested in work but the person who created it. If ever you read anything about a person’s life you are often going to come across something you didn’t know about and further research it, it goes on, and it’s more or less endless. In a similar vein I work and socialise with people in varying degrees older or younger than me, so if I don’t understand something they are referencing, I endeavour to find out about it. In those terms Barbara Cartland, Margaret Thatcher, Gareth Pugh, Tilda Swinton, Quentin Crisp, Francis Bacon and Goldfrapp are not so unrelated.

CS – In the context of the photographs, do you take particular aspects of each influence? Personality, expressions, values…?

CF - I certainly tried to emulate those who I was portraying facial expressions and mannerisms where possible. I was also very careful when assembling the various props and styling the wigs that they helped towards portraying a feel of that person.

If you mean me as a person, out of our subjects, I would say no. I believe that by and large our personalities are a product of and a reaction to the world and those around us; our own sphere of experience. I couldn’t claim to share Margaret Thatcher or Barbara Cartland’s fairly conservative views on a great many things. I can admire their stoic style, their conviction in what they believed and their determination, but I’m more likely to be admiring of people like Harriett Harman, Peter Mandelson and Pete Burns.

CS – I think colour is very important in these images, background and clothes, as well as the accessories. Did your influence for coloured/shiny accessories just come from your other influences or somewhere else?

CF - The coloured brooches were really necessitated after your first few photo shoots. The black ones in the first shoots were too hidden and purely as a matter of taste I wasn’t too happy with the gold ones. The first blue and pink ones again were influenced by B.C, whom I’ve been looking at for various bits of projects. Once our subsequent shoots got underway there was a certain amount of considering the persona we were portraying when creating the accessories, even so they all had additional influences. For instance, the white ones where inspired by the ‘Childlike Empress’ after I read ‘Never ending Story’. The mixed colours (blue and pink and as yet unused pink and white) were inspired by the fashions in the TV programme the ‘Golden Girls’. The silver ones came about as a reaction to the gold ones; I wanted them to bear more resemblance to jewellery, to metal. This same thought has made me realise I should have used a pearlescent colour for the white ones.

CS - It’s both fascinating and inspiring to hear your vast range of influences. Back to the colours though, which background colour do you think works best – black or coloured? I think the black gives a quite powerful photo, but the colours are sugary and provide a different feel, almost more personality through the colours.

CF- Indeed the black is dramatic; I always perceived this to be because black immediately sets a photo apart from its surroundings thus giving more focus to the subject. It also seems to remind me of Royal portraits. I find the coloured backgrounds are effective in a different way, they lend to the photo the impression of a little box into that chosen persona fits into (for me anyway).

I couldn’t choose which works best, all I could say as long as black and coloured images are not displayed together then they will always work. The end product will work because of the assembled strength of the images and I believe mixing the backgrounds would detract from this

CS – I totally agree, mixing the two would make it look untidy and unconsidered. I also think its important that I chose to use you as a model. Initially, it was because they are your accessories and I wanted you to showcase them. Now, I think the project thrives on the face you are modelling in the images and the different personalities you communicate so well. What are your views on being a model? I know you where quite nervous to start with!

CF - “Modelling” is something I have done with less and less frequency since my A levels. I suppose people choose to work with me because I’m not entirely precious about the way I look in said work. It’s not my responsibility or my concern how I look; it’s someone’s work and is not often a portrait. Imagine if you will, that I am your potato face for the painting. That being said you’re right, I was nervous for the duration of the first few shoots as I was wearing little or no makeup and they were more portraits of me. Herein the difference lies; modelling I am comfortable with - it’s not me, it’s not myself. Portraits I am awkward about and uncomfortable with.

I don’t see me as a model being integral to the success of these shoots; I think my most important contribution was to our collaboration on the styling.

CS – I disagree! I think you make such a great model. But I also understand what you are saying about the different between modelling and portraiture. I see this project almost turning into a personality study on you. Do you think that comes across in the images?

CF - Not terribly no. I think there is very little to indicate what I am like as a person. The same could however be said about most photos of me. Looking how I sometimes choose to look can actually obscure or prevent people from engaging with or learning about me. It’s not helped by the fact I’m never entirely comfortable with how I look in photographs.

I’m sure anyone else would tell you aspects of my personality come through. Perhaps I’m just not terribly perceptive when it comes to things regarding my own image. All I can say is that on the whole I do not identify with the people in these images. I do not identify with them as myself. But the fact that I’ve found it easier and have continued to allow myself to be photographed under the vale of other people’s personas is in fact, I’m sure, revealing of something about my character."

So there you have it, I'm not sure I came across as articulate or as informed as I would like, but it was only my first go at that sort of thing. I shall worry no more though. In the pipeline there are still wonderful things planned for photographing Designer Jack Duffy's graduate collection. We are in the first stages of planning now I am out of work and Catherine is no longer an Exhibition.

Thus far this week I have moved homes, trampolened, road an exercise bike, painted polystyrene eggs (which is more difficult than I imagined), painted turds (Does it ever end?). Tommorow I will continue with this, as well as sketching and planning for the weekend when I will be making Accessories with my friend Lucycas.

Oh my Cod!

Above is Grace Coddington pictured of course with Ms Wintour. Grace Coddington if you don't know is creative director of American Vogue. I'm not going to do a mini blog about her, all you need to know is that she is amazing. If you want to know more about her, and indeed her working relationship with La Wintour then I suggest you watch The September Issue.
Below you will see The Cod has become the latest object of Catherine (http://catscriv.wordpress.com/) and I's photographic affection.

Notice the cat tote bag and the cat turd (apparently) brooch. Course Grace is a big cat lover. The bag is actually by a gentleman called Dominic Owen (http://domjowen.blogspot.com/).

I found these photographs very difficult, it's been somewhat of a step back to photograph me as Grace as she is not nearly as iconic in general consciousness as the previous victims. However she is still a strong and inspiring individual. As it was actually very difficult to get me look like her facially we had to rely a lot more on the wig and styling, but even so we still had to be rather subtle as Grace is fairly minimalist (though no less idiosyncratic) in her appearance.

Moving forward Catherine and I intend to take this project further, we have many exciting personalities lined up, each with their own ever more ambitious shoots planned. What is clear to us is that portraits will most certainly not just remain in this format and also that we must develop new elements to this project, though they will remain secret.

We also intend to work with the sew fingery Jack Duffy (http://www.catwalking.com/GRADUATES/GRAD_10/BA_shows/shows/Bath/shows/06-Jack%20Duffy/index.html) on his photographing his collection and I should probably produce a webshite.

Anyway this post has gone on overlong and I have a pork pie to devour.

I don't think the wig arrived till the day and I was really worried about the makeup, to make up for it though the actual outfits were more fun to assemble for this shoot, although I was suprised at how difficult it was to find a suitable white Blouse. My favourite's are the first and last photo, power and bemusment.
I will just state this now I do not not support the Conservatives, hence the red lipstick for labour.
Speaking of which I am excited for Peter Mandelson's memoirs.
Hopefully one of the activities this weekend will be to categorise all the bits and bobs used for the photoshoots thus far, which I am looking forward to now I am not ill.

Well poor Rue is dead and I am gutted.
Hopefully very soon I'll get round to posting some more Liz 1st photos as well as The Maragaret Thatcher ones. Catherine has finished uni now, but hopefully we are gonna continue to do more work together, I need to fill the create void. I've been a bit all over the place lately what with student finance, applying for Halls and a one week illness I am seriously lagging in the creative sense.
Anyway work should get back on track, I'll make new accessories and I'll get prepared for university, or I'll die.

All the posts on my Blog are just regurgitations of those on Catherines, more or less.
Here is a preview of last Thursdays photographic efforts, where I travelled back in time to usurp Lizzy Tudor.
I am wearing a paper collar and a "tights bodice", lots of borrowed jewelery, an Annie wig (which I lovingly styled into something more noble) and of course my turds. I think it was rather successful. I've named the collar the Mandelson collar, I had this image of Peter Mandelson sat in front of his dresser dressed up much as I am. I might make some more Mandelson collars.
I must confess I may be slightly in love with the Baron.
Anyway I'm getting to think me and Catherine are getting good at this stuff, let's hope we can pull it out of the bag for Margaret Thatcher and possibly Quentin crisp this wed/thurs.
We have the wig sourced and flying it's way here and I shall be blouse and pearl hunting tonight.
Since I've digressed earlier I will do so again and wish all my friends finishing off there degree things all the best and I hope their projects come out well, so well that my eyes spontaneously combust upon viewing. I know you can all do it kids

Today is let's face it not a good day. I'm not at all happy.
There's not a lot I can do about it, my small protest shall be not to wear blue if I can help it.
This is a source of some heartache for me, so in order that said splendid garments are not flung into the wilderness it is likely I shall strip and re-dye those that I can. If for some reason they can't be stripped but I feel I need to wear them I shall wear them with some sort of anti-Tory display. But all in all I shall not be buying or wearing blue as a rule.
Sounds shallow but it's my form of protest through something that is very important to me.

On a somewhat happier note you will have gazed across the above four images taken at the same time as the previous Barbara Tartland images, with one notable difference, the pink background!
I enjoy very much how the background has changed the whole look of the photo's. Much more subtle and something of the pastel about them.
A cheeky old friend said of these that I may have peaked, that I have not ever, nor will I ever look better than this.

Dear patient reader,
I am sucking a black bulls eye.
Below you will find proof I have been involved in something creative of late.
I unveil (sort of) the Barbara Cartland Inspired images that I mused for and helped style with Catherine. I'm really pleased with how they've come out, Catherine is too and so she should be I think she's done a brilliant job.
I enjoy dressing up for photo's, I suppose that way it's not really me, so I don't have to worry about how I look. I will admit I found the results of previous photo shoots very difficult to enjoy because it was me and I'm not a fan of how I look naturally. I've never really felt that my face correlates very well with who I am, regardless of this fact my face is what I have to work with. Due to this I have spent hours in front of mirrors picking out faults and looking to see if anything has changed, it never does. Hence the wearing of the heavy makeup when I can, it makes me feel more like me on the inside, but outside. So appearing in the photographs essentially plain was something I found "uncomfortable"to say the least. Not to say I didn't think the past photo's were great I'm just dubious about my facial area.
So deepness over I think that's why I enjoyed the Barbara Cartland shoot more and subsequently I look forward to the Margaret Thatcher and Elizabeth the 1st ones. Time to play about with an image that is not entirely representative of me.

So that's that!I hope you enjoy, there is another set of Babs photo's with a pink background to follow as well as the previous 80'sish shoot.
So that's something for you to all stay alive for a while longer in order to see.
Before I leave I would just like to point out an observation of one of my lovely colleagues that the third image from the top is very Margaret Thatcher. I think she's right so there's a building block for the DNA of the next shoot.

So my hair is dyed not orange but a vibrant red and I did buy a foundation that is far too light for me, but not quite the one I wanted.
Below you will see a selection of scans from my sketchbooks. My sketchbooks I must admit are a bit manic and tend to include everything I am thinking about at any given time, I am getting better though, as I have been attempting to be more focused in preparation for study.

So although my mind is preoccupied with stories and my weekend I have been asked to help my friend Jack Duffy photograph his final collection.

Dear gorgeous faithful readers,

Of late I seem to have been busy doing fuck all.

Maybe that's not quite right, it's not that I haven't done anything I just haven't done much.

I've been involved intwo more photoshoots with Catherine, 1 carried on from where the last one left off even if it was slightly more 80's power dressing Influenced.

The latter shoot was actually a bit more different, last night I did my best Barbara Cartland impression. I donned a wig and alot of makeup but didn't quite achieve the Spitting Image type grotesque look I was going for. Due to my ultra smooth skin unlined skin( ahem) and good eye sockets I actually looked a bit more like some sort of french prostitute, on the polaroids anyway. Very pastel.

I'm hoping the medium format film picked up more of the detail and that the heaviness of the makeup shows through a bit better.

I will of course post as soon as I have anything, hopefully I will soon have some scans of my sketches to place on here as well, since Catherine will be scanning them anyway hopefully I can steal. Then you'll get a glimps into the inner workings of meine mind innit.

The above two images are of Barbara Cartland & Carmen Dell'Orefice, the first being the main influence and the latter being a sort of secondary one.

Anyway I'm off to get me hair dyed orange and to buy some foundation that's far too light for me.

Blogging has been a little slow my glorious readers, but fear not I am indeed alive and kicking, so to speak.

If I am being honest now all my interviews have ended and I know where I am going (Fashion at Birmingham) I have been more than a little lazy. I've been putting a lot of pressure on myself lately, so I decided to have a rest from doing complicated creative things for a while. I must confess though I have begun to get itchy feet, so work will resume very shortly.

It's not that I haven't done anything, I did some childlike painting on a vest which was described by my friend as looking like " A parrot had ejaculated all over it", so there of course is a whole new direction for me.

I've been doing plenty of little designs as well, as a consequence a small order of square sequins have just arrived, I'll perhaps post some drawings later today.

Also just to let you know now that my life has resumed I've been gallivanting off to London and Bath to see long suffering Andy and Shane, two people who may well be reading this.

One more thing of note I have done this week ( On Wednesday 7th April, to be precise) was posing for a 3rd set of pictures of Catherine.

I think it went really well, we've got into more colourful turds now, it was very eighties with jackets and earrings and matching brooches. I really liked it, I was asked if there was anywhere I might want to take it, so I said maybe different coloured backgrounds. I also threw in the above image of Margaret Thatcher as an idea. So a Margaret Thatcher inspired shoot complete with turds maybe on it's way. This excites me.

Also mentioned by Catherine were Elizabeth the 1st style shoots, which is equally as exciting for me.

Anyway I shall wind this up by saying that tonight whilst visiting my mother I shall hopefully be listening to all things Margaret Thatcher, to get me in the mindset. I will also hopefully update this here blog again with some photos as well.

"As promised, here are first three images from my latest shoot with Daniel.
I am really pleased with them and did some prints on Monday that look quite good. I particularly like the one with the white shirt. There are two others with Danny wearing a white shirt; one with a black poo and one with gold, but I thought it worked best with a bit of colour. I also like how dark they are, but would like to try some different coloured backgrounds, and maybe make them a little lighter eventually. Im looking forward to the next shoot."

This sort of thing is where half of me is at at this moment, I think it come's from watching excessive amounts of Golden Girls. I like the blue's and pinks, blues and Pinks I've discovered through Barbara Cartland blended with the eighties.

As briefly mentioned before I've not just been making turd jewellery, I made a hat on Thursday.
It's actually part of the project involving 350 pink butterflies that I started probably last month.
The girl in the picture is Timka a fellow receptionist, she's very good looking and as far as I can tell not one bit vain, that's probably why I got her to pull stupid faces.
So the "hat" itself is rather simple, it's a piece of tortured/twisted willow with double pink paper butterflies attached to it, mounted on the trusty Alice band.
I realise it's difficult to find a piece of willow this shape, but I decided it would be better to utilise what nature created rather than try to replicate it.
I had a number of influences; of course there's the obvious Phillip Treacy and Isabella Blow, there was also a bit of Barbara Cartland and Tim Burton thrown in.
I suppose it's simply about a contrast, the wood sprayed black to emphasise it's twisted death, textured and gnarled, the butterflies pink and smooth. Suppose it's about newlife, that's what a colleague said to me.
I'd like to think it was more that the butterflies had killed the plant, but I should have probably used locusts, or at least attached half eaten leaves. I'll be making it again though, so we will see.

The Still on the left is from one of my favourite films, The Dark Crystal (A universal release), it was directed by Jim Henson. Even now 28 years later I still think it looks spectacular. I really think that anyone who has not seen it, should see it.
Anyway short update I travelled to Blackpool, well St Anne's actually with my turdy treats on sunday. Upon arrival I applied a small amount of makeup, got changed and assembled my headpice and was flashed. I was suprised at how nervous I was actually, I've never been entirerly comfortable having my picture taken and of course I'm more used to being behind the camera. Catherine took polaroids to test the light and each time she went to take the photo at the last minute I laughed or something. Horror. In the end I managed to contain the lower half of my face and a successful shoot seemed to have occured. Catherine was very calm and gentle, I was not used to working in such a way. I'm used to extremes either too much wine and not enough concentration or silence and sweating.
I actually missed using photographic equipment in an odd way, odd because I never used much and I wish now that I had. I suppose I have my whole life ahead of me though.
Anyway regrets are for another day, hopefully by the end of the week I will have more photos of the accessories used and some photos to post from the shoot.
For now you'll just have to wait and cx.

I am having a slight disaster, my turds are being delievered to the wrong address and I need to have my accessories mostly finished by the end of tommorow really, so Catherine can take photo's on Sunday (Argh! Flash gear, my face argh!). This crisis can be avoided if for some reason someone is in at my house and it gets signed for, if not I will have to track it down to a depot.
I just hope that it doesn't for some reason got lost like I think it's going to, because I do not need this right now!
I don't know why I am panicing, but on another note I have given up gaydar as promised before.

This project focuses (I never thought I'd say this) around fake shit. Fake dogshit as accessories.
Dominic say's it's subversive, I hadn't really thought about it to be honest, I think I just wanted to see how closely people look.

Maybe I was in a Goldfrapp circa Supernature phase, I dunno. There wasn't so much influence as idea. Black was an obvious choice because it disguises the nature of the object to a degree. The spray sparkle simply serve to make the thing look nice, a bit more glam.

Adding tassles to the design, as those who know me will know, was not a great leap of the imagination. But the point was not to be groundbreaking or entirerly original even, rather just to make average, run of the mill, unremarkable brooches. Brooches which upon closer inspection are not nice. Anyway I think the shorter tassles work better, I will be trying for shorter tassles and a gold variation.

Two tone turd.

I had two colours and am open to all options. I think this is a no for now.

I will continue to develop my brooches, there'll be feathers hopefully and many other adorments.

Development

Turds on yer shoulder.....over the rainbow.

These turds are an experimentation in gold. The exact colour I used was antique gold. This colour for me has too much of the diarrhoea about it, next time I'll look for a more yellow gold.

It's all part of the fun.

Anyway these are to form part of a shoulder piece, but that's another direction to be explained at a later date.

As you will see she is more colourful: cheeks, eyeshadow,eyes, hat and black outlines all remain the same. What has now been added is a lovely bit of bling, eyepopping lip colour, a multi tonal flower and whiter than white hair!

This is Bea one, went alright, looks very little like her, but I would carry it none the less.

Bea 2

This is the second version of Bea, the hair is slightly better on this one. I also used a different colour for the lips and two blues for the eyes. I understand that Bea looks more like some sort of witch, but I suppose it's the idea more than the likeness. Tote bags are such an inately trendy thing, there's always a trendy message, pattern or person. You get the drift, Bea & Babs are not trendy, but are iconic. You don't expect to see them on tote bags though.

Lately it's been very difficult to find the time to do everything I need to do.
Life of late has meant for me a lot more stress.
As the days go by redundancy looms as Igor would say, but not the good redundancy where you get a lump sum, just the loss of my current temporary position. Temporary is an odd way to describe it, as I have been in my current job for almost two years.
Anywho that's not what I wanted to bore all five of you with.
Due to the absence of the internet in my personal dwelling it's been very hard for me to update this blog with actual evidence.
I have since I last blogged achieved a number of small things;

Painted a second Barbara Cartland bag whilst also improving the design slightly.
Finished painting my second design, the lovely Bea arthur.It doesn't bare an immediate resemblence to her. The face I used is actually from a picture of her well into her seventies, where as the hair is Bea's hair from the 70's, sort of Maude styleee. I like it anyway.
I am in the process of making an oriental garden/ Tim Burton/ Barbara Cartland inspired butterfly head piece.
I am also in the process of designing and creating fake dogshit accessories. They will involve blacks and golds, glitter and tassles amongst other things. Very shortly my friend Catherine wants to photograph these, modelled by me ( I'm thinking me trying for Tilda Swinton will end up somewhere closer to La Roux) I suppose it's part of her degree, I don't know, maybe she just fancies me. http://catscriv.wordpress.com/
Finally I have an interview for fashion design at Birmingham city. I have not however heard back from Manchester or Brighton yet. Nail biting.

I was ‘a sittin’ down the other day and I realised I’m bored of the wave of darkness I’ve been wearing. I know so because the other day I could not find a single thing to wear. The whole point of limiting my garment palette to black was so I would have to think more about what I was wearing, more textures, more shapes, MORE SHEER! I think I may have actually reached my limit with sheer (Never thought I’d say that). When I first started I found it really difficult to find what I wanted to wear, now it’s all too easy, half my wardrobe is now nipple bearing.
Where’s the fun in that?
Though I will not be saying farewell to Fashionista’s favourite of black, I do think we need to re-evaluate our relationship. It’s all got too much, so although we can still see each other, I do think we should start seeing other people.
I myself have a few dates lined up with pink and blue (arranged by Barbara Cartland), grey (Fuck off Lucy) and shock maybe even whites and BLUE DENIM! That doesn’t mean however that I am going to stop shaving, stop wearing makeup and start wearing checked shirts. I just wish to return from the shadows.
Besides that earth shattering piece of news I have only to report that my website is falling further behind as I have some online portfolios to create for universities.
I shall update you with a link soon, should you be desperate to find it before then I will be updating it and the blog can be found on my very own blogger profile.

Post number three and it’s been a long time coming. I am going to try and be a bit nicer with this one, I’ve just read second post and I sound somewhat bitter. I am bitter of course, just not all the time and not always as full of bile as that previous post might suggest.
I have just returned fresh from Bath, last night I endured a journey which saw a fat moron in a fur trimmed cowboy hat ejected from the train, First Class no less, I was also seen to be mingling with the stars. I use the term mingling loosely as it was only me listening to Frank Carson who was sat behind me; he’s just had his knees done.
So anyway creatively speaking there is very little to report, I am now officially a student on Tuesday nights. I’m doing my BTEC which is supposedly in Pattern Cutting and Garment Construction though I remain sceptical.
I am in the process of constructing some black glittering deer antlers, papier-mâché naturally; I decided I needed something to pop to the shops in. If this first pair is successful I plan also to construct a fringed pair as well. I’ll post some pictures when I have some.
I have also got a taste for crocheting, I’m not sure it likes the taste of me though. When I get a bit better, I’m not too bad actually; I am hoping to produce some tacky crochet chav type jewellery, think gold chains and tasteless pendants. Salford may be an inspiration.
Not very exciting I grant you, but I shall provide photographic evidence as soon as I have it.
Whilst I am here I may as well share some things of interest to me, because I know you all (my dear reader) hang on my barbed words of beautiful wisdom and despair.

It has been a while; apparently I of all people have been stuck for something to say.
However procrastinating over my lack of "to say" is no good, so here I am once again forcing myself to write. Whether this will be worth reading I do not know, but I don’t suppose it matters when it is out there because when it is out there it’s no longer my concern.
So I have been trying to negotiate the minefield that is adult education and higher education, I have so far made a failed attempt at enrolling on a pattern cutting course at Chorlton Adult Learning centre, an establishment which apparently is not in the slightest bit interested in teaching anyone with enthusiasm or ideas, they just want to teach silly young ladies who wish to make cushions.
Why in hell would you need to learn to pattern cut to make cushions? It actually makes me sick to think that those people managed to enrol and I, by a cruel twist of fate (being on the wrong side of the line), did not.
Now this whole pattern cutting thing came about because I tried to enrol on two university courses, each one in turn made the decision for me that I should be studying Fashion and therefore was not suitable for their prospective courses. So now I am in Limbo, I am desperately trying to get myself trained enough in some sort of fashion skill so that next year I might get actually get an interview for a course.
So again I am attempting to enrol on BTEC or national Diploma or summats at another college, I think its fashion construction and pattern cutting or something.
I suppose this is all beside the point though, I mean even if I get on one of these courses how do I know it will not suffocate me?
I visited a friend in Bath on Friday gone, I went to see the end of year show, graduate show, I don’t know exactly what the hell it was, but it was at the Uni. So I went to see this thing and the moment I set foot in that building it just seemed wrong. I could feel the institution bearing down on me the seeds of establishment everywhere. To be honest it was slightly overwhelming. It was a shock for me actually because I’ve spent so long in my life being so sure University is somewhere where I wanted to be, indeed somewhere that I need to be, to have such an adverse reaction to the atmosphere of the place has unseated me slightly. Later on my distaste for the place was only bolstered further when I found myself in a room full of what seemed like hundreds of students, drunken students who all seemed so much younger than me. In reality they were not younger, I suspect they were mostly my age or older, the problem was I just don’t feel comfortable in that world.
If I’m honest I didn’t enjoy the work I saw, I didn’t see any boundaries being pushed, I didn’t feel challenged, I didn’t feel anything, it just felt safe, it felt like it was fulfilling an obligation rather than being a product of someone’s creativity. I’ve longed for the danger and the challenge so long and I can’t see it whenever I look for it in these education establishments, indeed in anything established that claims to be a scion of creativity.
Maybe it’s a product of the establishment or maybe it’s out of touch me.

I am sat at a switchboard, I am an evil receptionist/switchboard operator y'see ( well I'm so much more, but thats how I trade my soul for money). So I am sat at this switchboard trying to think of something amazing and witty to write here, well it turns out words have failed me. So I thought right I'll just be myself, but then of course I remembered reading back on my diaries of the past and I realised I don't think its possible to write as yourself. When I write I seem to write like some horrible angsty nutcase, who is constantly writting for someone else, thinking about what they will think about it and theres really no need.
So I got to thinking maybe I wont write this with me in mind or anyone else, I'll be caustic, I'll be fun, I'll be a boy and if anyone reads this through it may be a miracle, not a big big miracle you understand just a small one.
So here goes, you don't have to bother trying to keep up with me lord knows I never do, would probably be a hazard to your health y'know, warning this blog may cause aneurysms,occasional boredom and mild allergic reactions such as death and loss of the will to read.
So all this aside, I am now the voice of a caustic funboy, some may say just a caustic boy, some would say boy is a bit strong and caustic will do, but all that aside generally this will just be an outpouring of my adverse reaction to life, with some nice pictures of the wonderful stylish people I know. True to caustic form I hope you enjoy it and don't feel the urge to slit anything or touch yourself, both actions make a terrible mess.
